Labour and Birth Doula Services

I am a Doula Canada certifying Labour and Birth Doula. This is my life and this is my passion. Having had three of my own babies I can support you by not only drawing on my experience of pregnancy, labour, and birth but also through my extensive education obtained by training with Doula Canada and KG Hypnobirthing. Being not only a Doula, I am also a childbirth educator so I can provide an even deeper level of support.
"I do not care what kind of birth you have... a homebirth, scheduled cesarean, epidural hospital birth... I care that you had options, that you were supported in your choices, and that you were respected."  - January Harshe of Birth Without Fear

As your Doula I am exclusively there for you and your partner. I am employed by you to support only you during pregnancy, labour, and after the birth.  I am there to empower you, to provide a constant source of comfort, objective emotional support, and unbiased educational research.

I encourage you to advocate for yourself, take responsibility for your care, to make informed decisions, and I facilitate discussions between you and your caregivers.

I will be there for the entirety of your active labour, suggesting techniques for increasing your comfort such as massage, use of rebozo, alternative labouring positions, and breathing techniques. Doulas are not just for un-medicated births! Even if you decide to use pain relief, having a Doula can still be of huge benefit to both you and your partner and the above mentioned techniques can still be used to help facilitate labour. If you have a c-section, a Doula can still help prepare you both for birth, show you relaxation and comfort techniques, provide information about gentle births and your birth choices, as well as be there to support for you and your partner.

I do not replace your partner, instead I enable them to support you even more. I am there to provide your partner direction as well as an often much needed guilt-free break. Since the 1950s, the partner has been thrust into a coaching role during birth; my role is relieve the partner of this often intimidating pressure and allow the partner to do what they do best, which is to be themselves and support the mother in their naturally loving instinctive way.

I work with your care providers, and regardless of how you birth (at home, at the Fredericton hospital (Horizon's Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital), with or without medical intervention, c-section, HBAC, VBAC, with the Fredericton Midwifery Centre's midwives or an OB)  I am a valuable addition to your birthing team.
